This page is for you - my wonderful students - to share insights, questions or breakthroughs you are having. Or you might simply share a piece that you are really enjoying. It may help someone else who is on the same path! Thanks for sharing.
I like the analogy of the mountain top, valley, and plateau, but I like to think of it in a more dynamic way, like a journey, and sometimes when you’re cruising on a plateau you can appreciate the beauty of the area around you and have a nice, pleasant walk (playing the songs you’ve learned with ease), and then you come to a hill or mountain and have to slow down and work a little harder (learning new, challenging pieces), but the rewards are great when you get to the top. Running down the hill can be fun too or as I did when I was a child rolling down with abandon is exhilarating (playing extemporaneously with you or at home).
Thanks for the great analogy and to you and Simply Music for making all the parts FUN!

Heidi McLean: I am realizing that it's ok for my playing pieces from memory to feel like a very separate entity at first from reading/playing by music...but I've learned that the two should meld together at some point.
